After a 2-0 series sweep in Ireland, India lost to England by nine wickets in the fourth Twenty20 match.
According to a senior source, India’s cricket board will assess the T20 team’s performance following a terrible run in which the world champions lost consecutive series in England and Ireland.
In the fourth Twenty20 encounter versus England on Thursday, India lost by nine wickets, giving the home team an unbeatable 3-0 advantage with one game left after the first match was cancelled.
After a 2-0 series sweep in Ireland last month, the result was India’s fifth straight loss.
After the England tour concludes on July 19, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will convene to address the reasons behind the team’s performance, secretary Devajit Saikia said on Friday.
Saikia, who is in Edinburgh for the International Cricket Council’s annual convention, told the news agency AFP over the phone, “The BCCI is currently observing the Indian T20 team which has not been up to the mark in the ongoing series against England.”
“To discuss what went wrong in England, we will hold a review meeting with the team’s core members.”
After winning the T20 World Cup in March, India’s performance has drastically declined. They achieved 158-7 in Bristol on Thursday, a mark that England chased down with over six overs remaining and nine wickets.
Days prior, India had lost their biggest Twenty20 match by a margin of 125 runs after being bowled for just 76 in Nottingham.
The decline, according to Saikia, was a brief setback.
This is not unusual and can occur in international cricket. We view it as an entirely negative stage,” he stated.
Adolescent batting sensation With scores of 14, 13, and 15 in his three innings, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who made his eagerly anticipated debut at the age of 15, has struggled to make an impression.
Before a three-match ODI series, the teams play their fifth and final Twenty20 encounter in Southampton on Saturday.
