Shubman Gill, the captain of the Indian ODI team, was left out of Punjab’s starting lineup for their Round 5 Vijay Hazare Trophy encounter against Sikkim on Saturday. Gill and Arshdeep Singh, the premier pacer for India, were both scheduled to represent Punjab, but only Singh was able to get a spot in the domestic game. The supporters, who were thrilled to see Gill in action in Jaipur, were devastated. Gill’s abrupt rejection has now been explained, and it has to do with the batter’s health.

Gill had to miss the game because of food poisoning, according to a Sportstar report. Gill would have made his first appearance since being left out of India’s T20 World Cup 2026 roster if he had participated in the game.

Gill was not selected for the T20Is against New Zealand in addition to the T20 World Cup. But according to reports, he will captain India in the ODIs against the Kiwis, which start on January 11.

In the Vijay Hazare Trophy match, Punjab defeated Sikkim by a commanding 10 wickets after chasing down the score of 76 in just 6.2 overs. Arshdeep Singh, a pacer, claimed five wickets.

The Team India roster for the forthcoming India vs. New Zealand ODI series will be revealed on Saturday, according to Devaijit Saikia, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The BCCI secretary told ANI that the Indian Cricket Selection Committee for the Senior Men’s team will meet on Saturday before announcing the squad for the three-match ODI series between India and New Zealand, which will begin in Vadodara on January 11.

“As you know, from the 11th of January, India is going to play New Zealand in a three-match ODI series, and today we have a meeting with the selectors, and in the afternoon we are going to announce the squad for the New Zealand series who will be representing the country,” Devajit Saikia stated to ANI.

In particular, the Indian cricket team’s 2027 ODI World Cup preparation will be greatly aided by the New Zealand ODIs.
