Although the lifestyles of actors may appear opulent and beautiful on the outside, most of them balance demanding filming schedules with their personal obligations. And being on a movie set a few days after giving birth? Only Margot Robbie is capable of doing that.
Three months after welcoming her first child with husband Tom Ackerley in October 2024, the Barbie star has now talked candidly about going on the Wuthering Heights set.
Margot Robbie Discusses the Difficulties of Filming Wuthering Heights Months After Giving Birth
Margot Robbie talked about the significant difficulties she encountered when filming the new Charlotte Brönte adaption after becoming a new mother in an interview with Vogue. “I was three months postpartum when we started shooting,” she stated. I was therefore in a very different frame of mind. I didn’t go about my daily business. It was more random.
“And I remember asking writer-director Emerald Fennell, ‘What if I’m not prepared enough?'” she continued. “I don’t want you to prepare,” she repeated. Robbie explained, “I just need you to be in the moment. Fennell’s response was a lovely way of relieving my anxiety.” It has to do with being in my body rather than my head.
Margot Robbie on collaborating with Jacob Elordi
Robbie also discussed how hard she, Fennell, and Jacob Elordi worked to capture the romance in the British classic novel during the conversation. Robbie revealed that she and the filmmaker would frequently talk about concepts like “what reads to us as hot or exciting or sexy” and “it’s not just a sex position or someone taking their shirt off.”
“It almost made me weak at the knees,” she remarked, recalling a scene in which Elordi’s Heathcliff picks up Catherine (Robbie) “with only one arm!” while shielding her face from the rain with his other hand.
“It was the little things that we loved as two women in our 30s, and this movie is primarily for people in our demographic,” she continued. Women are rarely the authors of these epic romances and historical works.
What’s the Point of Wuthering Heights?
Wuthering Heights has been hinted at as a controversial retelling of Emily Bronte’s beloved book since the first pictures and teaser were released.
The film examines the tragic romance between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw, in which social differences, infatuation, and envy result in a string of retaliatory acts that plague their families for decades. Jacob Elordi, Hong Chau, Alison Oliver, Shazad Latif, Martin Clunes, and Ewan Mitchell are all included in the 2026 version.
The Collaborative Works of Emerald Fennell and Margot Robbie
Margot Robbie and Emerald Fennell are working together for the third time. In the past, Robbie produced Saltburn (2023) and Promising Young Woman (2020), Fennell’s first feature film. But Robbie is starring in a movie directed by Fennell for the first time. Fennell helped ground her despite her concerns about going back to work as a new mother. She might not have had as much prep time as usual, but that’s just a part of becoming a mother!
On February 13, 2026, Wuthering Heights will be released.
