In just over one session on Saturday, October 4, Kuldeep Yadav (2-23), Mohammed Siraj (3-31) and Ravindra Jadeja (4-54) destroyed the West Indies and concluded the Ahmedabad Test. With an overnight advantage of 286 runs, India won by an innings and 140 runs 45.1 overs later, launching their ascent to another WTC final with a resounding victory.
From the start, Bumrah and Siraj bowled incisive lines. John Campbell and Tagenarine Chanderpaul, the openers for the West Indies, did a good job of protecting the outer edge of their bats from seaming deliveries, but Siraj’s short one had the former’s name on it. The decrease of length caused Chanderpaul’s eyes to light up, and he executed a pull shot well. But in the eighth over, Nitish Reddy made a fantastic catch by flying to his left from a short square leg.As early as the seventh over, in ideal circumstances, Shubman Gill gave the ball to Ravindra Jadeja, who made rapid progress. At forward short leg, Campbell flicked one into Sai Sudharsan’s hands, and Brandon King, who drove well, managed to edge one that spun away from him. KL Rahul reduced West Indies to 34 for 3 with a quick, low catch at first slip.
From behind the stumps, Dhruv Jurel often reminded Kuldeep Yadav that the spinner was difficult for the hitters to read. The first person to suffer the consequences of the aforementioned incapacity was Roston Chase. Two tossed-up deliveries that turned 5.6 and 4.9 degrees inward were bowled by Kuldeep to the skipper of the West Indies. Kuldeep bowled a little faster and pushed the length back on the third one. Chase failed to take into consideration the much smaller turn of 2.1 degrees. His off-stump was floored and he was squared up.
India was outstanding on the field even though the bowlers presented difficult challenges. Shai Hope edged a cut against Jadeja after Yashasvi Jaiswal made a brilliant, forward-diving catch at backward point to send him packing. At lunch, Justin Greaves and Alick Athanaze led the West Indies to 66 for 5.
After the interval, Athanaze and Greaves improved their batting performance, while India used Bumrah and Washington Sundar. Athinaze attempted to play him against the turn, but the offie eventually got through and edged one back to the bowler. Greaves was then eliminated by Siraj, who used a precise yorker to trap him leg before. Jomel Warrican attempted to hit a powerful hit and clear his front leg two balls later, but the ball barely reached Shubman Gill at mid-off, costing him both his bat and his wicket.
For a few moment, Johan Layne tossed his bat around before Jadeja’s return put an end to his efforts. At mid-off, he skied one straight to Siraj. Additionally, Jayden Seales went all out, reaching 22 off 12 before hitting a straight back to Kuldeep.
In short, West Indies lost against India 162 (justin Greaves 32; Mohammed Siraj 4-40, Jasprit Bumrah 3-42, Kuldeep Yadav 2-25) and 146 (Alick Athanaze 38; Ravindra Jadeja 4-54, Mohammed Siraj 3-31, Kuldeep Yadav 2-21). By an innings and 140 runs, 448/5 decl. (Dhruv Jurel 125, Ravindra Jadeja 104*, KL Rahul 100, Shubman Gill 50; Roston Chase 2-90).
