Portugal will return to the FIA Formula 1® World Championship calendar in 2027, with the FORMULA 1® PORTUGUESE GRAND PRIX taking place at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, in Portimão, from 18 to 20 June 2027. The confirmation follows the official publication of the 2027 season calendar, released this Wednesday by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile – FIA.
The race marks the return of the pinnacle of world motorsport to the country and follows the agreement signed between Formula 1® and the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in December 2025, which also secures the staging of the race in 2028.
The Portuguese round will occupy a strategic position at the start of the European season. For Jaime Costa, Chief Executive Officer of Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, this is a long-awaited milestone. “We finally have a date we have been working towards for a very long time. The last season held here, in 2021, left drivers, teams and fans impressed by our facilities, but above all by the excitement that our circuit delivers.” Over the three days of competition, there will be continuous on-track activity, complemented by initiatives and side events taking place during the week leading up to the Grand Prix.
The event mobilises the region as a whole and represents a strong asset for promotion and economic dynamism. According to André Gomes, President of Turismo do Algarve, “In 2027, we will be able to increase this impact significantly, with hundreds of thousands of people over the several days of the event, an extraordinary global audience and an estimated economic potential of around €150 million, with effects on hotels, restaurants, transport, retail, services and a broad chain of companies and suppliers across the region.”
The media power of a sporting event such as Formula 1® can drive visibility beyond the region itself; it places Portugal as a country in the spotlight. “This is an opportunity to strengthen Portugal’s profile among strategic audiences as a competitive, well-prepared and attractive destination throughout the year. It also allows us to showcase, once again, the quality of our tourism offer, the excellence of our infrastructure and the way Portugal knows how to welcome visitors,” says Carlos Abade, President of Turismo de Portugal.
The region has direct air connections from more than 30 European cities through Faro Airport.
“I have a simple message for the fans,” says Jaime Costa. “Come and stay for a week, not just for the race. This is a Grand Prix at the meeting point of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, with the perfect combination of beautiful beaches, gastronomy, culture and now, the FORMULA 1® PORTUGUESE GRAND PRIX.”
Tickets available from 21 September
The Autódromo Internacional do Algarve announces that the official campaign for the 2027 Portuguese Grand Prix will launch on 21 September, the date on which the first of four ticket sales phases will begin, exclusively through the event’s official platform, available at: portugalf1gp.com
In the first phase, three-day general admission tickets, reserved seats in all grandstands and different hospitality options will be available.
