India’s wholesale price-based inflation rose to 9.92 per cent in August 2026, from 9.78 per cent in July, according to provisional data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Monday.
The increase was largely driven by higher fuel and power prices. Inflation in the category rose to 22.93 per cent in August from 20.05 per cent in July.
The Wholesale Price Index measures price movements of goods at the wholesale stage. The latest data is based on the new WPI series, with 2022-23 as the base year.
