FSSAI seizes misbranded infant food in Bengaluru, initiates legal action against British Life Sciences

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has initiated enforcement action against British Life Sciences in Bengaluru after an inspection found a significant quantity of misbranded infant food at the company’s premises.

The regulator said the products were seized after officials found violations related to labelling and other regulatory requirements governing infant food products.

FSSAI said legal proceedings have also been initiated against the food business operator, citing the nature of the violations and the potential risk posed by non-compliant products intended for infants and young children.

The action was part of an enforcement drive focused on checking the safety and regulatory compliance of infant food products.

3.7 tonnes of expired infant food destroyed

In a separate action, 3.7 metric tonnes of expired infant food products were ordered to be destroyed in accordance with directions issued by the court.

The expired stock was subsequently disposed of to ensure that it could not be reused, diverted or reintroduced into the food chain.

The destruction of the stock comes amid heightened regulatory scrutiny of products meant for infants and young children, who are particularly vulnerable to food safety and quality risks.
