Tulip Siddiq, a Labour MP in the UK and Sheikh Hasina’s niece, claimed that Muhammad Yunus of Bangladesh was “interfering” in British politics.

Sheikh Hasina’s niece and a Labour MP in the UK, Tulip Siddiq, has called the accusations made by Muhammad Yunus, the leader of Bangladesh’s interim administration, a “political vendetta” and an attempt to damage her character.

Additionally, she charged Yunus with trying to meddle in UK politics.

The accusations against her, which are connected to corruption cases involving former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, have prompted an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission of Bangladesh.

Siddiq has “much wealth left behind in Bangladesh,” according to Yunus, who called for holding her accountable for it earlier in March of this year.

Earlier this month, when he was in the UK, he had also refused to meet her. Siddiq quit her job as Treasury Minister back in January after Sheikh Hasina and other members of her family were accused of wrongdoing.

According to Siddiq, Yunus’ comments made in a television interview had harmed her prospects of receiving a fair investigation. According to Sky News, she contended that the ongoing corruption investigations against her ought to be withdrawn as a result.

On Monday, Siddiq’s legal team wrote to ACC and Muhammad Yunus urging them to conclude the investigation. The accusations against her were described in the letter as unfounded and an attempt to damage her image.

“Nothing will stop me from pursuing the position for which I was elected with a resounding majority—representing the people of Hampstead and Highgate—and I will not permit them to draw me into their murky political world. Therefore, they must put an end to this political grudge, this slander campaign, and this wicked persecution from the start,” she stated on Monday on Sky News.

Siddiq has been charged by the Bangladeshi investigative agency with unlawfully obtaining land while her aunt, Sheikh Hasina, was in office. According to officials from the Dhaka interim administration, corruption during Hasina’s tenure resulted in the theft of around $234 billion, or 27.38 lakh crore Taka. Additionally, they assert that a significant portion of this money has been spent or concealed in the UK.

Shafiqul Alam, Yunus’s press secretary, denied the accusations of meddling in UK politics and stated that all complaints against Siddiq will be handled by Bangladeshi courts.
