When musician and actor Diljit Dosanjh walked the famous stairs of the Metropolitan Museum wearing a turban—a sign of Sikh identity—a kurta, and a tehmat—a log tunic and draped bottoms—he won hearts and brought Punjabi pride and grandeur to Hollywood’s largest fashion event, the Met Gala 2025.

The New York Times claimed that Diljit’s crew sought to wear the Maharaja of Patiala’s personal jewelry in order to pay tribute to Sir Bhupinder Singh, who lived in the early 20th century, but they were turned down.

The greatest necklace the French jeweler had ever created, weighing 1,000 carats of diamonds, was commissioned by the prince in 1928.

To finish Diljit’s ensemble, they attempted to steal the famous Cartier necklace, a 1,000-carat diamond necklace created for the Maharaja of Patiala for the Met Gala night, according to Ms. Devnani in an interview with The New York Times.

She hired the Indian jeweler Golecha to make jewelry inspired by the prince’s collection, including a turban brooch, but they were turned down because it is sealed in a museum.

The artist accessorized his traditional ensemble with a stacked diamond necklace by Golecha’s Jewels and a headdress adorned with jewels, even if the renowned Cartier necklace was not there.

Diljit also carried a kirpan (sword) adorned with jewels and a lion’s head.

Diljit proudly displayed his Punjabi culture on Instagram a few hours after making his famous appearance at the Met Gala, stating, “Main Hoon Punjab, #metgala.” I bring my turban, my culture, and my mother tongue, Punjabi, to the Met Gala, which is inspired by the Black Dandyism theme. Dear @prabalgurung, @theannawintour, @cartier, @golecha_jewels, and @abhilashatd, thank you so much.”

Additionally, he posted a couple images of himself looking like Maharaja:
