In a posthumous ceremony on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump praised his killed ally Charlie Kirk as a “martyr for truth and freedom” and gave the right-wing activist America’s highest civilian medal.
Trump compared the 31-year-old conservative to Socrates, Saint Peter, Abraham Lincoln, and Martin Luther King as he presented Kirk’s distraught widow with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
During the solemn White House event, Trump, 79, also promised to intensify his fight on what he describes as extremist left-wing organizations that he established after Kirk was shot.
Trump addressed a gathering of the nation’s conservative elite, saying, “Our country must have absolutely no tolerance for this radical left violence, extremism, and terror in the wake of Charlie’s assassination.”
We will not allow our cities to remain unsafe, and we are done with the irate crowds.”

The ceremony was attended by a number of conservative US media figures, libertarian firebrand Javier Milei, and visiting Argentinean President Javier Milei.
When the medal ceremony took place on what would have been her late husband’s 32nd birthday, Kirk’s widow Erika thanked Trump for taking the plane back from a peace trip to the Middle East.
“You have given him the best birthday gift he could ever have,” she remarked, at times stopping to gather herself and wiping away her tears.
She went on to say that Kirk “would probably have run for president” if he had not been slain. Kirk leveraged his massive followings on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok to garner support for conservative talking points.

The murder of Charlie Kirk has been charged against 22-year-old Tyler Robinson. If found guilty, he might be executed.
