US President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about the India-Pakistan dispute. Trump also warned Iran that it must make a decision on its nuclear destiny immediately and provided information regarding negotiations on Ukraine, Iran’s nuclear program, and international challenges.
According to Kremlin Aide Yury Ushakov, during a briefing, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump spoke over the phone about a number of international concerns, including the war between India and Pakistan.
Ushakov stated, “They also touched upon the Middle East and the armed conflict between India and Pakistan, which was stopped with the personal participation of President Trump,” according to TASS, a Russian news agency. But at the briefing, Yury Ushakov withheld the specifics.
Following the Pahalgam terror assault, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, tensions between India and Pakistan had significantly escalated. In India’s Jammu and Kashmir, Pahalgam is a popular tourist attraction. India attributed the incident to militants based in Pakistan.
In retaliation, India began Operation Sindoor on May 7 with the goal of carrying out precision strikes on targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), which are home to terrorist camps, located across the border. Pakistan responded with counterattacks. On May 10, both nations declared a total ceasefire.
The phone conversation between Putin and Trump also touched on this confrontation, along with other significant international issues, amid the deteriorating ties between the two nuclear-armed countries.
TRUMP DISCLOSES THE CALL DETAILS
Following the call, Donald Trump released additional information about the discussion in a post on Truth Social. He claimed that among other international issues, the two presidents discussed Iran’s nuclear program and the conflict in Ukraine.
“I just wrapped up a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The duration of the call was almost one hour and fifteen minutes. We talked about Ukraine’s attack on Russia’s moored aircraft as well as other attacks that both parties have been carrying out. Trump wrote, “It was a good conversation, but it won’t result in immediate peace.”
“President Putin stated, quite emphatically, that he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields,” he continued. Additionally, we talked about Iran and the urgency with which Iran must make a decision regarding nuclear weapons. I think that President Putin and I agreed when I told him that Iran could not possess a nuclear weapon. President Putin indicated that he will take part in the talks with Iran and that he might be able to help bring this to a quick end. I believe that Iran has been taking a long time to make a choice on this crucial issue, and we will need a clear response very soon!
MILITARY RESPONSE TO UKRAINE ATTACKS HINTS FROM RUSSIA
In response to recent drone attacks deep within their territory, which they blamed on Ukraine, Russian officials announced that same day that they are thinking of taking military action. Moscow further charged that Western nations were complicit in these assaults.
