During the military confrontation earlier this year, US President Donald Trump has hailed his tariff threats as the true mediator between India and Pakistan. The American leader told reporters he wouldn’t have been able to “solve” eight international crises that he claimed to have resolved while flying to the Middle East in advance of an exchange of hostages and prisoners between Israel and Hamas.
Additionally, he discussed the existing border tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan and hinted that, because he is skilled at “solving wars,” he would find a solution.
“I used tariffs alone to end a couple of the wars. For instance, between Pakistan and India. Trump told reporters on the way to Egypt for a peace summit where a truce between Israel and Hamas is anticipated to be finalized, “I said, If you guys want to fight a war and you have nuclear weapons, I am going to put big tariffs on you both, like 100 per cent, 150 per cent, and 200 per cent.”
“I am putting tariffs,” I said. Within a day, I got that matter resolved. You couldn’t have won that war if I hadn’t imposed tariffs,” he continued.
India has consistently denied that the United States is involved in Operation Sindoor or the truce that follows with Pakistan.
Trump has frequently asserted that he was instrumental in preventing military escalation since the truce was declared in May 2025 after Operation Sindoor, frequently attributing it to his trade and tariff policies. However, New Delhi insists that the military leadership of both sides held direct discussions without the assistance of a third party to decide to halt hostilities.
Regarding Changing Focus
Trump also stated that the ceasefire in Gaza will be the eighth crisis he has resolved, hinting that he will next turn his attention to the tensions between Kabul and Islamabad.
“This will be the eighth conflict I have resolved, and I’ve heard that Pakistan and Afghanistan are currently engaged in combat. “It will have to wait until I return,” I responded. I’m working on another one. Since I am skilled at resolving conflicts,” he declared on Air Force One.
On the Snub of the Nobel Prize
He also asserted that his record of resolving disputes was “pretty good” while aggressively campaigning for nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize the following year.
“Consider some of the conflicts that lasted for many years. With millions of people dead in each country, we had one going for 31, one going for 32, and one going for 37 years. I completed all of those, for the most part, in a single day. It’s quite good. To do so is an honor. He claimed to have saved millions of lives.
“To be fair to the Nobel committee, it was for 2024,” he said in response to his rejection of the Nobel Prize. 2024 was chosen for this. However, some argue that since a lot of things that happened in 2025 are finished, finished, and fantastic, you may create an exception. However, this was not anything I did for the Nobel. I took this action to save lives.
