On Tuesday, the office of former US Democratic President Barack Obama stated that the conclusion that Russia attempted to sway the 2016 US election is unaffected by a document released by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence last week. The paper, however, did not alter any votes, it stated.
This occurred after US President Donald Trump charged Obama on Tuesday with “treason,” accusing him of spearheading an attempt to discredit his 2016 presidential campaign by falsely linking him to Russia.
The generally acknowledged conclusion that Russia attempted to sway the 2016 presidential election but was unable to successfully alter any votes is unaffected by anything in the paper released last week, according to a statement from Obama’s office.
Obama’s administration declared, “These strange accusations are absurd and a feeble attempt at diversion.”
Trump has regularly called out Obama by name, but since taking office again in January, the Republican president has not gone so far as to accuse his Democratic predecessor of committing crimes, according to Reuters.
Trump capitalized on words made in the Oval Office on Friday by his intelligence head, Tulsi Gabbard, who threatened to send officials from the Obama administration to the Justice Department for prosecution over an intelligence assessment of Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
She declassified records and said that the evidence she was making public revealed a “treasonous conspiracy” by senior Obama administration officials to discredit Trump in 2016. Democrats criticized her assertions as being politically driven and untrue.
He is guilty, and it’s there. This was treason,” Trump stated on Tuesday, though he offered no substantiation of his assertions.
They made an effort to confuse the election and steal it. Even in other nations, they accomplished things that no one could have predicted.
THE DOCUMENT
According to a January 2017 US intelligence assessment, Russia used Russian bot farms, hacking, and social media disinformation to undermine Democrat Hillary Clinton’s campaign and support Trump.
The evaluation found no proof that Moscow’s actions genuinely altered vote results and concluded that the impact was probably minimal.
According to a 2020 Senate intelligence committee joint assessment, Russia attempted to sway the 2016 election in favor of Trump’s campaign by using the WikiLeaks website, Republican political consultant Paul Manafort, and other means.
