Former Telangana Chief Minister and leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, K Chandrashekar Rao, has formally proclaimed a “direct war” against the incumbent Congress government, ending an almost two-year break from active street politics.
KCR announced his official comeback to politics at Telangana Bhavan on Sunday, promising to “peel off the skin” of an administration he believes has violated the state’s fundamental rights.
He refers to the “Triple Betrayal” of Telangana as the foundation of KCR’s resurgence. He charged Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the BJP-led Center, and the Congress-led state government with plotting to “loot” Telangana’s water resources.
According to KCR, his government completed 90% of the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme by spending Rs 27,000 crore. He said that the drought-prone area would perish as a result of the Congress government’s “shameful” request to the Center for just 45 thousand million cubic feet (TMC) of water, down from the initial 170 TMC.
He asserted that the Revanth Reddy government was a “silent spectator” and that the Center had returned the project’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) at Chandrababu Naidu’s request.
KCR has instructed the BRS cadre to start village-level mobilizations as of right now. Three sizable public gatherings are planned for January 2026 in Mahabubnagar (Palamuru), Rangareddy, and Nalgonda.
It was one thing till yesterday; it will be different going forward. KCR ended his post-election hush by declaring, “I have entered the field… there will be no more niceties.”
The return has sparked a frenzy right away. In retaliation, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy called KCR a “economic terrorist” and charged that he was “selling out” Telangana’s interests by consenting to a meager 29% share of Krishna water while in office.
In the Legislative Assembly session beginning on January 2, 2026, the Chief Minister has challenged KCR to an in-person discussion.
Revanth Reddy called KCR’s press conference a “theatrical performance” meant to distract the public from the BRS’s prior shortcomings.
KCR’s timing, according to political commentators, is intentional. The BRS leader wants to recover the “Telangana sentiment” that characterized his ten-year leadership in light of the impending local body elections in 2026 and the mounting irrigation-related concerns of farmers.
Additionally, KCR has not yet addressed the situation inside his family and party, where his daughter Kavitha was expelled from the BRS and is currently training guns on both her cousin, former minister T Harish Rao, and her brother, working President KT Rama Rao.
