Political circles in Uttar Pradesh have started to speculate that seven-term MP Pankaj Chaudhary would soon become the state BJP president.

In the Gorakhpur area, Chaudhary has long been a well-known and reliable person. In eastern Uttar Pradesh, he is seen as a leader with considerable social and political influence because he is a member of the powerful Kurmi group.

His closeness to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the confidence he enjoys at the highest levels, according to those who closely monitor the state, have put him firmly at the top of the race.

Chaudhary’s ascent to the position of Union minister of state for finance and Maharajganj MP has been gradual, solid, and based on years of organizational labor. The schedule has been meticulously prepared as the party prepares for the election of the position: nominations will be submitted on Saturday between 2 and 3 p.m., and they will be scrutinized that same day. Candidates may withdraw their names for one hour, from 4 to 5 p.m. Many in the party think the new president might be elected without any opposition because there hasn’t been any obvious opposition thus far.

For Chaudhary, the task at hand is well-defined, but it is by no means easy. Elections in Uttar Pradesh are scheduled for early 2027, and the BJP will be running for a third term in a state where social and political forces are still changing. In this context, Chaudhary’s new position becomes essential. As an experienced leader, he will be asked to navigate the intricate internal mathematics inside UP itself while also striking a delicate balance between the Center and the state—a task that has repeatedly taxed leaders.

All eyes are on how the BJP’s Uttar Pradesh unit is getting ready to welcome a seasoned parliamentarian—one of the most well-known figures in the Kurmi community—as its new organizational leader as the formal procedure draws closer.
