According to a Sunday Nanos poll, the difference between Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives and Mark Carney’s Liberals was about 4 percentage points, which was marginally more than it had been on Saturday.

Ottawa: 2025 Canadian Election: On Monday, Canadians will pick a new government as the Liberals, led by Mark Carney, attempt to unseat Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives and maintain their hold on power. On Sunday, candidates made their last run for votes, but a fatal automobile crash in Vancouver shook the campaign’s closing hours. The horrific incident momentarily diverted attention from US President Donald Trump, who has angered Canadians with his trade war and threats to takeover Canada.

After a motorist crashed into a crowd during a street celebration in the Philippines, killing eleven people, Prime Minister Carney momentarily halted his final day of the campaign to speak to the nation. Following the incident that left scores injured, a 30-year-old man was being held on suspicion of having a history of mental health problems and past run-ins with the law, according to police.

As he expressed his support for those impacted, 60-year-old father of four Carney broke down in tears and remarked, “Last night families lost a sister, a brother, a mother, a father, a son, or a daughter…Those families are living every family’s nightmare.”

In the election-tumultuous city of Mississauga, west of Toronto, Poilievre and his spouse were seen at a church. They denounced the incident as a “senseless act of violence.”

“You have our deepest sympathies today. “The Filipino community has the support of all Canadians,” Poilievre declared.

The Results of Opinion Polls?

Carney, a former college hockey goaltender and two-time central banker who took over this year when Justin Trudeau quit, is viewed by Canadians as the strongest candidate ahead of Monday’s election, according to opinion polls. Poilievre, a 45-year-old member of parliament for 20 years, has attempted to maintain the focus on rising living expenses during Trudeau’s ten years in office, claiming Carney will carry on what he describes as disastrous Liberal governance.

But according to pollsters, Carney’s Liberals are still leading by a slim margin in the popular vote before the final vote because of his tough attitude against the US following Trump’s imposition of tariffs on Canada and his repeated references to the once-close friend as the 51st US state. The remarks made by the American President infuriated Canadians and caused Poilievre, whom the Liberals have likened to Trump, to lose a lead of about 20 points.

The 43 electoral districts of British Columbia are some of the most hotly contested areas in the nation. According to a Sunday Nanos poll, the difference between the two leading parties was about 4 percentage points, which was a little more than it had been on Saturday. According to the poll, the Liberals had 43% of the national vote, while the Conservatives had 38.9%.

When Can We Expect the Results?

In Canada, advance polls were conducted from April 18 to April 21 so that voters may cast their ballots before the day of the general election. A new single-day turnout record was reached when nearly 2 million Canadians cast ballots on the first day of advance polling. Polling places will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. local time on Monday, the last day of voting, so eligible voters can cast their ballots.

Results will start to come in soon after polls close in the Atlantic provinces because of Canada’s six time zones. When polling places shut in the Pacific time zone, the final results will be announced.

The number of Canadians registered to vote has increased from 338 in the 2021 election to almost 28 million across 343 ridings.

Because opinion surveys indicate that the Liberals’ support is more concentrated than the Conservatives’ in metropolitan regions with a large number of electoral districts, or seats, that outcome in national voting would probably result in a Liberal victory. The likelihood that the Liberals would secure a majority of seats to govern without the assistance of a minor party is uncertain.
