Punjab Kings (PBKS) secured a spot in the top two of the IPL points table for the first time in 11 years after a commanding seven-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians (MI)

At the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by a resounding seven wickets on Monday, guaranteeing them a place in the top two of the IPL points table for the first time in eleven years. Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis both had outstanding fifties to lead PBKS as they chased a goal of 185. They anchored the innings and led their team to a resounding victory. As a result, MI will play Eliminator 1 while PBKS, who are atop the IPL points system, will play Qualifier 1.

Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya started the PBKS innings. With MI bowlers giving up just 18 runs in the opening three overs, both hitters got off to a steady start. Impact player Ashwani Kumar dropped Prabhsimran off Deepak Chahar in the fourth over.

But in the next over, seasoned bowler Jasprit Bumrah dismissed him for 13. Arya was joined in the center by Josh Inglis. On 47/1, PBKS completed their power play with Josh Inglis 8 (8) and Priyansh Arya 24 (12).

In just 29 balls, Inglis and Arya established their 50-run partnership. PBKS was 89/1 after 10 overs, with Josh Inglis scoring 35 (23), and Priyansh Arya scoring 37 (21). In the eleventh over, Inglis faced Ashwani Kumar and hammered him for three consecutive boundaries.

In the 12th over, Inglis reached his first IPL fifty off just 30 balls, and his partner, Arya, reached his fifty in the same over. In the 14th over, the pair scored 100 runs for the second wicket.

In the next over, Mitchell Santner hit nine fours and two sixes to dismiss Arya for 62 (35), and PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer joined Inglis in the middle.

In the final five overs, PBKS needed to score 39 runs. Josh Inglis was 64 (38), Shreyas Iyer was 9 (7), and PBKS was 158-2 after 16 overs. For 73 (42) Santner took Inglis out.

The PBKS captain was joined in the middle by Nehal Wadhera. In the 19th over, Shreyas Iyer hit a six off Trent Boult to round off his career in style.

Jasprit Bumrah (1/23) and Mitchell Santner (2/41) were the only MI bowlers to take wickets.

Earlier in the game, Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 184/6 in 20 overs thanks to a valiant fifty from Suryakumar Yadav and a crucial cameo from Naman Dhir.

Ryan Rickleton and Rohit Sharma started MI’s innings. With just 23 runs contributed in the opening three overs, the pair got off to a steady start. PBKS spinner Harpreet Brar was smashed for a six and four by Rohit, who at last raised his arms in the fifth over.

In the final over of the power-play, Rickleton was dismissed by Marco Jansen for 27, and Rohit was joined in the middle by Suryakumar Yadav. With Rohit Sharma scoring 17 (12) and Suryakumar Yadav scoring 5 (4), MI concluded their power play at 52/1.

Brar dismissed Rohit Sharma for 24 in the tenth over, ending his middle-field battle. Rohit Sharma needed 43 more runs to get 7000 IPL runs.

Suryakumar was joined in the center by Tilak Varma. The Mumbai Indians led 83-2 at the half, with Tilak Varma 1 (2) and Suryakumar Yadav 28 (17). Will Jacks joined SKY in the middle after Vijaykumar Vyshak dismissed Varma for one in the next over.

Mumbai’s score in the 12th over was 100. Jacks was removed for 17 off 9 balls despite his attempts to raise the batting run rate. Suryakumar was joined in the middle by MI captain Hardik Pandya.

Hardik Pandya had a catch and bowl chance on zero when Vyshak dropped it. In the 16th over, Hardik and Suryakumar took on Kyle Jamieson, a seamer for PBKS, and thrashed him for 13 runs.

After being hit for a six in his opening over, Marco Jansen dismissed the MI captain. Naman Dhir joined Suryakumar in the middle after Hardik scored 26 off 15 balls.

In the 19th over, Suryakumar Yadav reached his fifth fifty of the season, and Dhir hit Vyshak for two sixes on his first two balls.

They each hit Vyshak for 23 runs. In the final over, Arshdeep Singh got rid of Naman Dhir for 20. Spinner Harpreet Brar claimed a wicket, while Arshdeep, Jansen, and Vyshak each claimed two.
