The high-intensity explosion that tore through a car near Delhi’s famous Red Fort on Monday night, killing at least nine people and injuring dozens more, has investigators looking into the possibility that it was a fidayeen-style (suicide) attack.

Exclusive sources claim that just one person was spotted operating the Hyundai i20 just prior to the explosion, both when it was leaving the toll plaza and when it arrived at the Subhash Marg traffic signal next to Red Fort.

According to reports, the car had been parked for more than three hours before the explosion, which raises the possibility that it was designed specifically to target nighttime traffic and maximize casualties.

According to preliminary assessments, the explosion was strong enough to smash windows in nearby buildings and gut a number of nearby cars.

To determine the kind and quantity of explosives used, forensic specialists are analyzing debris.

In relation to the incident, the Delhi Police later filed a formal complaint under the Explosives Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Sections 16 and 18 of the UAPA, which deal with punishment and conspiracy for a terror act, were used to register the complaint at the Kotwali police station.

Additionally, pertinent passages from the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) have been cited.

According to reports, many raids were being conducted as part of the terror investigation at several places throughout the city.

Tight security measures have been implemented at airports, train stations, metro stations, and bus terminals in the nation’s capital, which has been placed on high alert.

Panic broke out in the crowded area when the explosion happened at 6:45 p.m. close to the Red Fort Metro Station. Images from the scene showed other cars completely destroyed by fire as well as the car’s twisted remnants.

Leading investigators from the National Security Guard (NSG), the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and Delhi Police’s Special Cell have joined the investigation to track down the driver and ascertain whether an organized terror group was responsible for the incident.
