According to an airport official, the Mumbai-Varanasi airplane made an emergency landing at Chikalthana Airport on Sunday evening. Sushila Devi, an 89-year-old native of the Mirzapur area of Uttar Pradesh, has been identified as the deceased passenger.
An airport official confirmed on Monday that an elderly passenger aboard an IndiGo Airlines flight from Mumbai to Varanasi died in midair, forcing the airline to make an emergency landing at Chikalthana Airport in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.
The widow, Sushila Devi, 89, of Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, started feeling ill during the journey, prompting the emergency landing on Sunday evening. Before any medical assistance could be given on the ground, the condition became fatal, despite the crew’s best efforts to help her and the quick diversion to the closest airport.
According to the official, a medical emergency caused the plane to land at Chikalthana Airport at around ten o’clock at night. The woman had already passed away when a medical team arrived to examine her. The official stated that when the MIDC CIDCO police station completed the required procedures, the flight continued on to Varanasi. The woman’s body was taken to Chhatrapati Sambhjinagar’s Government Medical College and Hospital, the airline said.
Bird strike forces IndiGo flight to abort takeoff
A flight headed for Bengaluru was canceled last month when a bird struck the aircraft on March 24 at the Thiruvananthapuram international airport. 179 passengers were on board when the issue happened, according to airport sources who spoke to news agency PTI minutes before takeoff.
The bird incident caused IndiGo flight 6E 6629, which was traveling from Thiruvananthapuram to Bengaluru, to return to its berth, according to airport officials. Following the required maintenance, the aircraft subsequently resumes operations.
