It can be difficult to make taxi reservations when traveling. In the majority of foreign nations, taxi fares are more costly than our travel budget permits. By the time you get to your destination, the meter will have risen wildly since you got in. However, taxis continue to be the most practical mode of transportation for commuting, particularly while traveling overseas. The ‘Mapping the World’s Prices 2025’ research, published by Deutsche Bank, recently disclosed the cost of a five-kilometer local taxi ride in the top 20 global cities.

Prior to getting into the specifics, it’s crucial to note that taxi journeys in India are usually reasonably priced. For instance, a five-kilometer ride in Delhi costs about Rs 176, while Mumbai and Bengaluru are the second, third, and sixth most affordable cities in the globe, respectively, at Rs 185 and Rs 256.

1. Zurich, Switzerland:

The most expensive city to book a taxi is Zurich, where it will cost about Rs 2409 ($27.3). The Swiss city has the highest prices for housing, daily expenses, and goods. The underlying rates, such as driver wages, car maintenance, parking, insurance, and fuel, are just as high as the average salaries of the populace.

2. Paris, France:

The next most expensive city on the list is Paris, where a 5-kilometer ride costs about Rs 2339 ($26.5). Being the priciest city in Europe, taxi services must adhere to stringent regulations, including those pertaining to license, driver education, and city-specific taxes. The heavily populated, busy areas are another factor contributing to the high taxi fares.

3. Luxembourg

Because of minimum rate thresholds, greater fixed expenses in core regions, and regulatory frameworks, catching a cab in this European metropolis costs Rs 2295 ($26). The causes include metering, insurance, fuel, idle time in traffic, and pickup fees.

4. Geneva, Switzerland:

Next on the list is Geneva, another Swiss city, where a taxi ride of five kilometers costs almost Rs 2215 ($25.1). A high cost of living is the straightforward explanation. It is best to reserve a taxi only in an emergency because buses and trains run here regularly.

5. London, United Kingdom:

Indeed, it is impossible to envision London without the yellow cars squeezing by the old-fashioned streets. Despite the fact that these taxis are sometimes romanticized in movies, they will actually cost you about Rs 2039 ($23.1) for a 5-kilometer ride. To prevent unexpected costs, you can also reserve airport transfers in advance or take advantage of certified minicabs.
