As the war with Iran intensifies, Israel’s military unleashed massive airstrikes on Tehran, hitting more than 60 locations, including facilities for nuclear weapons research and military missile manufacture. The strikes, which were a component of ‘Operation Rising Lion,’ came after Iran’s counterattacks. Concerns about possible radioactive consequences have been raised by the UN nuclear watchdog’s reports of damage to many nuclear-related installations.
Conflict between Israel and Iran: As the war between the two neighbors began its eighth day, the Israeli military said Friday that it used more than 60 fighter jets to assault dozens of targets in Tehran overnight.
The operation also targeted a center for “research and development of Iran’s nuclear weapons project,” according to Israel’s military.
The IDF said in a statement that “more than 60 fighter jets used about 120 munitions to strike dozens of military targets in Iran.”
Within its statement, the Israeli military also claimed to have “finished a series of strikes in the heart of Tehran: dozens of targets were struck, including military missile production sites and the SPND (Organisation of Defensive Innovation and Research) headquarters for research and development of Iran’s nuclear weapons project.”
The SNPD headquarters is a facility that “is used for research and development of advanced technologies and weapons supporting the Iranian regime’s military capabilities,” according to the Israeli military.
Sites that made missile parts and factories that produced raw materials for casting missile engines were among the targets, the statement continued.
Additionally, the military claimed to have intercepted four UAVs that were launched overnight from Iran.
The army claimed to have struck “three ready-to-launch missile launchers aimed at Israeli territory” on Friday in a separate statement.
Israeli fighter jets have hit “several Iranian missile systems and radar installations in the areas of Isfahan and Tehran, which were intended to target IDF aircraft and disrupt their operations,” according to a separate statement from the Israeli military.
In a post on X earlier in the day, the IDF claimed that sirens were going off in southern Israel “because of missile fire from Iran.”
It stated, “Iranian missile fire is causing sirens to sound in southern Israel.”
The dispute between Iran and Israel
On June 13, Tel Aviv began a series of strikes against Iran’s military and nuclear facilities as part of “Operation Rising Lion,” which sparked the commencement of the conflict between Iran and Israel. Iran conducted “Operation True Promise III” in response and carried out retaliation strikes.
The UN nuclear watchdog has reported damage at a number of these facilities since the military operations began more than a week ago, including nuclear-related installations in Tehran, Arak, Esfahan, and Natanz, as well as their possible radioactive impact.
