Shapewear isn’t exactly the first thing that comes to mind when we think of summer trends. Dakota Johnson, however, has launched a campaign to alter our opinions this week for the second day in a row.
Despite the hot weather yesterday, Johnson chose to wear a lot of leather and all black. She wore a translucent black bodysuit with a central seam and a plunging V-neck over a knee-length black leather Balenciaga coat. Supporter of the bootcut renaissance, she accessorized with black Khaite Colt wedge mules and black denim with raw hems. Johnson avoided costume territory with his slinky bodysuit, trendy trousers, and cat-eye sunglasses, even though the coat could easily read Matrix.
Amidst publicity for her upcoming movie Materialists, Johnson demonstrated an alternative approach to wearing a sheer bodysuit the day before. She wore her translucent scoopneck Commando shapewear, styled by Kate Young, tucked into a pair of light-wash straight-leg jeans and underneath a strong-shouldered Khaite jacket made of latte suede. She also stuck with her Khaite shoes, just like her sheer shapewear.
Wearing leather and suede may seem like a surefire way to get overheated as summer approaches. However, Dakota Johnson is creating a warm-weather style without giving up her winter clothing by combining thicker materials with sheer undergarments.
