According to Donald Trump, the correct tabulation and counting of American citizens’ ballots “without illegal dilution” is essential to identifying the legitimate victor of an election.
The proper tabulation and counting of American citizens’ ballots “without illegal dilution” is crucial to determining the genuine winner of an election, according to Donald Trump.
Trump claimed that the US no longer upholds the “basic and necessary election protections” used by contemporary, developed, and developing countries, citing India and a few other nations as examples.
“India and Brazil are tying voter identification to a biometric database, while the United States largely relies on self-attestation for citizenship,” he stated.
“Germany and Canada require paper ballots when tabulating votes, while the United States has a patchwork of methods that often lack basic chain-of-custody protections,” he stated.
According to Trump’s order, many American elections now involve mass mail-in voting, with many officials accepting ballots without postmarks or those received well after Election Day, even though nations like Sweden and Denmark “sensibly” restrict mail-in voting to those who are unable to vote in person and do not count late-arriving votes regardless of the date of postmark.
President Trump declared that “free, fair, and honest elections unmarred by fraud, errors, or suspicion are fundamental to maintaining our constitutional Republic” after defeating Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in January.
“The right of American citizens to have their votes properly counted and tabulated, without illegal dilution, is vital to determining the rightful winner of an election,” he stated.
The polls “must be honest and worthy of the public trust,” according to President Trump, who has frequently questioned certain voting procedures since losing the US presidential election to Democrat Joe Biden in 2020.
Trump’s Order To Overhaul US Elections
US citizenship proof
In his order, Donald Trump demanded that the federal voter registration form be changed to require potential voters to present official documentation of their citizenship, such as a birth certificate or a US passport.
Additionally, it stated that states have to submit their voter lists and voter list maintenance documents for examination to the Department of Government Efficiency and the Department of Homeland Security. In order to assist states in identifying noncitizens on their lists, it instructed federal agencies to share data with them.
According to the directive, states may not be eligible for federal subsidies if they do not cooperate with federal law enforcement in the prosecution of election violations.
Mail ballots by Election Day
Federal assistance should be contingent on states meeting the deadline, according to the presidential order, which mandated that ballots be “cast and received” by Election Day.
Regardless of when they arrive, ballots received on or before Election Day will be counted in 18 US states, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Washington, DC, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
Ballots can’t rely on QR codes
The order directed the Election Assistance Commission to “protect election integrity” by revising its voting system guidelines. This would include recommendations that ballots with barcodes or QR codes on them should not be used by voting systems for the purpose of counting votes.
Within six months of the directive, Trump directed the commission to “take appropriate action to review and, if appropriate, re-certify voting systems” in accordance with the new criteria.
Foreigners barred from making donations
Additionally, foreign nationals were prohibited from making contributions to US elections by Donald Trump’s order.
“By exploiting gaps in the law’s interpretation, foreign nationals and non-governmental organizations have spent millions of dollars on ballot initiative-related expenses and conduit contributions. The right of American citizens to vote and to rule their country is undercut by this kind of foreign meddling in our electoral process,” he stated.
