Previously imposed 10 percent taxes on Chinese imports were raised to 20 percent by US President Donald Trump on Tuesday.

The Chinese embassy in the US responded sharply to the United States’ Tuesday 20 percent tax hike on Chinese imports by saying Beijing is prepared to “fight till the end” in any conflict the US desires.

Following Trump’s heated comments during a joint session of Congress, the official handle of the Chinese embassy tweeted on X: “If the United States wants war, whether it be a trade war, tariff war, or any other kind of war, we’re ready to fight till the end.”

Trump reaffirmed his position on Wednesday, saying that other nations have been using tariffs against the United States for decades and that it is now their turn. He criticized China, the European Union, India, and other “unfair systems.”

“It’s time for us to start utilizing tariffs against the nations that have been using them against us for decades. During his speech to a joint session of the US Congress, Trump stated, “It is very unfair that the European Union, China, Brazil, India, and countless other countries charge us much higher tariffs than we charge them on average.”

Previously imposed 10 percent taxes on Chinese imports were raised to 20 percent by US President Donald Trump on Tuesday. China complained about the US to the World Trade Organization. Additionally, Trump levied fresh 25 percent tariffs on Canadian and Mexican imports, which went into force on Tuesday.

Beijing’s commerce ministry issued a statement saying, “The United States’ unilateral tax measures seriously violate WTO rules and undermine the foundation of China-US economic and trade cooperation.”

Trump blamed China for not doing enough to stop the flow of fentanyl and other extremely powerful narcotics into the United States when he imposed the tariffs.

This has been disputed by the Chinese Foreign Ministry. “The US’s feeble justification for raising tariffs on Chinese imports is the fentanyl crisis. The #FentanylCrisis in the US is the fault of the US, not anyone else. We have taken strong action to help the US address the problem in the sake of humanity and goodwill toward the American people. The US has attempted to defame and place the responsibility on China rather than acknowledging our efforts, and it is now attempting to coerce and blackmail China with tariff increases,” the statement read.

We have been reprimanded by them for our assistance. This will erode our counternarcotics cooperation and conversation and won’t help the US’s problem. Fear does not frighten us. Bullying is ineffective against us. Threatening, pressuring, or coercing China is not the best course of action. Anyone who puts the most pressure on China is miscalculating and choosing the wrong man. It further stated that consulting with China and treating them as equals is the proper course of action if the US is serious about resolving the fentanyl problem.
