The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has made it clear that the new FASTag transaction standards would not affect the experience of users on highway toll plazas.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has made it clear that the new FASTag transaction standards would not affect the experience of users on highway toll plazas.

Following the introduction of a new regulation pertaining to delayed transactions caused by inactive FASTags at toll plazas by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), an umbrella organization for running retail payments and settlement systems, the clarification was made. The regulations went into force on February 17.

In order to prevent customers from being inconvenienced by late transactions, the NPCI circular seeks to guarantee that FASTag transactions are paid within a reasonable amount of time after a vehicle passes a toll plaza, according to a statement from NHAI.

To help resolve disagreements between acquirer and issuer banks regarding FASTag status when a vehicle reaches a toll plaza, the NPCI issued the circular, according to the statement.

According to the NHAI, FASTag users can recharge their tags at any moment before passing through the toll booth because all National Highway toll plazas use the ICD 2.5 protocol, which provides real-time tag status.

Some state highway toll plazas still use the ICD 2.4 protocol, which necessitates frequent tag status updates. It stated that all of these toll plazas would soon be converted to the ICD 2.5 system.

Interface control documents are referred to as ICDs.

To avoid the need for manual recharges, FASTag customers are advised to link their wallet to UPI, current, or savings accounts under the auto-recharge setting.

Consumers can use a number of payment methods, including UPI and net banking, to recharge their FASTags at any time prior to arriving at the toll booth.
